Now you’re engaged one of the most important decisions you will have to make (after the dress of course) is where you envision getting married. For many 2013 will see a return to nature as more couples choose to marry outdoors! Whether it’s in a hotel garden, a beach in Hawaii or your own backyard, outdoor weddings provide endless opportunities to create an unforgettable day. I know what your thinking…. If you live in the UK an outdoor wedding seems out of the question and too much of a risk because of the weather, but I think we just have to accept that we may be singing in the rain!

Maybe a ‘ballgown’ glamorous wedding in a hotel ballroom isn’t for you….. but it doesn’t mean a more rustic outdoor wedding won’t be just as amazing! Outdoor wedding tables look so inviting with beautiful floral arrangements and pretty place settings. Or how about a Mama Mia style wedding reception under the stars? If you are more of a boho bride then and outdoor wedding could be the right setting for you.

If you are considering an outdoor wedding here are a few tips to help you on your way:

Consider the weather:
This may seem obvious but is the only thing on your wedding day you can’t control. Whilst most couples will choose to get married in the spring or summer, as you know here in Britain our weather is anything but predictable and even in the midst of summer there can always be surprises. So always have a backup plan.

One popular option for outdoor weddings is a marquee or tent that can hold your ceremony and your reception. You can find some lovely ones at http://www.mar-key.com

Another option is to have a backup indoor venue located nearby so that if the heavens do open you can relocate indoors. This works very well if you choose to have your wedding in the gardens of a hotel or historic house and provides the benefit of accommodation for you and your guests.  Make the rain on your wedding day fun by hiring in funky umbrellas for all the guests or a few elegant white brollies for the ladies. Wellies have also been a hit for great wedding photos!

Check that your garden/outdoor space has a licence to perform weddings:
In some parts of the country weddings can only take place under a permanent structure with a roof meaning you may have to legally get married indoors. However, many hotels and historic houses have solved this issue by building pagodas or gazebo’s on their grounds that can be used to perform the ceremony. Alternatively some venues may have special licenses to perform weddings outside so always check with your venue.

Theme:
One of the greatest things about marrying outdoors is the opportunity to use your natural surroundings to create the wedding of your dreams. Therefore consider carefully what you are looking for. Are you looking for a summer country wedding in your garden, a beautiful sunset beach wedding, or possibly a winter wonderland? The options are endless.

Make it as comfortable as possible:
When marrying outside there are additional issues to think about. Try and avoid heavier fabrics as lighter, softer fabrics will be more comfortable and suitable for an outdoor wedding. Also consider your guests, if you’re marrying in the winter consider providing umbrellas and blankets if it gets a little cool. On the other hand in the summer fans and ice cool water for your guests are a lovely idea.

Decorations:
Many couples choose to marry outdoors for the natural beauty of their chosen venue; however it may be nice to add a little something extra. Why not consider lining your aisle and walkways with petals or candles. Alternatively you could hang lanterns from trees and structures, which will look lovely as the sun sets.

Fireworks:
If your venue allows fireworks for the wedding this is a terrific treat for you and your guests. Celebrate in true style.

Hi I am looking for a outdoor wedding venue, very intimate maybe 30 guests. A bit like the photos on your website. I would like a wedding planner who can offer me some venue options. I live in London so close by would be good. Thanks
