Greek Wedding in London

Steven & Laura’s wedding will always have a place in our hearts because they were such a lovely couple to get to know, with a kind nature and great sense of humour. They are a couple who are made for one another; you would either catch them smiling at one another, or teasing the other about something. With only 6 months to plan their wedding, it was a big task to plan a wedding for 350 guests – but they were not fazed by it and they put their trust and confidence in us from the word go.

The photographer on the day was Gavin Hart from Gavin Hart Photography and here is a selection of his beautiful images from the day. Gavin is an award winning photographer based in North London and is a friendly, professional guy who is always highly recommended by his previous clients. A Greek wedding is a big occasion and not just in terms of guest numbers. It is of monumental importance to the family of the couple and a day they take pride in celebrating with all of their friends and family. Even for guests who are non-Greek, everyone is invited to enjoy the day, experience the culture, enjoy the food and party in style! George from White Avenue comes from a Greek background himself and he couldn’t feel more at home with this particular couple because of his understanding of the traditions and customs that a Greek wedding involves. From the traditional church ceremony at a Greek Orthodox Church in London, a lively reception that would include a ‘money dance’, right through to the traditional Greek delicacies on the menu – it was definitely a big Greek wedding never to forget…

The couple married at All Saints Church in Camden Town. It is one of our favourite Greek churches in London because of its grand four column entrance.

The drinks reception was held in The Thames Suite overlooking the River Thames and Big Ben on the opposite side of the road. Gavin Hart was able to get some fantastic shots of Steven and Laura and the wedding party alongside the river as the sun set.  Their guests who were enjoying a glass of sparkling wine overlooked from the 180 degree view from the suite across the road.

Steven wore a very slick midnight blue, three-piece suit made by the talented team at Delvero of Fleet Street. It was an Italian slim fit style with chain. Laura being tall and slim looked every inch the Greek goddess in her bespoke gown.

Steven & Laura chose to have their reception in the Ballroom at The Park Plaza Riverbank. Here at White Avenue we enjoy combining the traditional and cultural aspect of a wedding with a modern twist, so we were glad the couple were open to creating a modern and stylish design for the ballroom. We designed a backdrop for their top table using rich off-white fabric which was draped together to create a ‘Grecian’ design and it was lit by soft, neutral lighting. Instead of using the venue’s own wooden dance floor, a white glossy floor was put in for a fairytale affect; superb for the couple’s first dance! To create a beautiful ambience, a blend of pink and purple lighting was used around the ballroom. The tall floral arrangements by Helen at Jia Floral Design were complimented by candles for a beautiful, romantic atmosphere.

What a fantastic couple, a great wedding and we wish them all the happiness for their future together.
